David Graves’ most extensive studies are instrumental ambient pieces. His unconventional approach to modifying and then installing sounds has resulted in a wide variety of sonic installations over the course of more than four decades. He has also written jazz, pop, electronic and “neoclassical” pieces for film, theater, studio, concert hall, and outdoor installations.
David was a resident of the Lucid Art Foundation, the Berkeley Symphony and the Djerassi Resident Artist Program. He has released several albums, including those with AmbientBlack, ScienceNV and The Aesthetic Condition. He was a sound designer for theatrical productions in Berkeley as well as the California Academy of Sciences. He studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, City College of San Francisco and the University of Nebraska.
David served on the Board of the San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra, the Irregular Resolutions composer collective and the Soundwave Festival. He currently lives in Eugene, Oregon.
