Over the course of three years (2018-2021), an audio/visual piece was created for each of Italo Calvino’s 55 invisible cities. The project was curated by David Graves, who collaborated with an international consortium of more than 30 artists. The audio pieces ultimately became a series of 11 EPs and received multiple accolades.
INVISIBLE CITIES is a novel published by Italo Calvino in 1972. His remarkable prose poems tell of 55 cities supposedly visited by Marco Polo, as described to Kublai Khan. Each is described as a fanciful parable; an existential meditation. It is organized according to 11 categories (5 cities in each) addressing issues such as memory, desire and death.
